Skincare 101 -A daily routine to start today!

While the expression “Rituals are the formulas by which harmony is restored,” may not be referring specifically to skincare, establishing a daily ritual for your skincare is a must for achieving or restoring healthy, beautiful skin. But what does the ideal skincare regimen consist of? To answer that question, we decided to dive in and explore skincare 101 and we’re sharing our top 5 maintenance must-do’s that you should be making a part of your daily regimen!
Begin and end with a clean slate – It sounds simple but cleansing your skin in the morning before you apply your makeup and at the end of the day before bed is an important part of any skincare routine. Getting rid of excess oil, toxins and chemicals helps your skin breathe and can prevent breakouts. Be sure to choose a gentle, hypoallergenic cleanser to avoid over-drying your skin.
Speaking of dry – Dry, flaky skin is never a good thing and, if you are prone to dry skin in the first place, a daily moisturizer is essential. But even if your skin is on the oily side, using a daily moisturizer should still be a part of your skincare regimen. Believe it or not, not using moisturizer on oily skin can make it appear even more oily! Just be sure to choose an oil-free lightweight moisturizer and apply it after cleansing.
Don’t let the sun rise and set – On your face! This skincare must-do is probably the most important thing you can do for your skin. That’s right – sunscreen! The importance of protecting your skin from harmful UV rays cannot be overstated. Whether it’s a bright, sunny day or cloudy with the sun nowhere in sight, slather on sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to prevent the perils of sun damage.
Just below the surface – There are dead skin cells that can leave your skin looking dull and lifeless. Exfoliating regularly not only gets rid of dead skin cells, making your skin look brighter; it also stimulates collagen production and cell turnover. If you have sensitive skin, you should be exfoliating once a week, for normal skin, 2-3 times a week.
What’s on the inside matters – What we mean is, what you put into your body affects your skin. So, eating a healthy diet rich in antioxidants and skin-loving nutrients should definitely be a part of your overall skincare plan. And that plan should also include drinking plenty of good old H2O to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. After all, our bodies are made up primarily of water, so replenishing it daily is super important.
There are a lot of other things you can incorporate into your daily skincare routine to keep your skin looking and feeling great. Using products with glycolic or hyaluronic acid, vitamin C serums, or Retinol can bring tangible benefits to your skin. It can be helpful to consult a professional aesthetician to find out what products are best for your skin type.
