How to Balance Life and School

Striking the right balance between going to school and living your life is no easy task. Especially when your daily routine feels more like a clip from the latest Fast and the Furious movie. But achieving that perfect life and school balance is possible. It just takes a little planning. Here are some ways to bring the calm versus crazy to your life, if you happen to have a little too much on your plate.

Get plenty of vitamin zzzzz’s

– Sleep that is. Oh, we get it. Sometimes staying up until 3 am to finish that work assignment or study for that test seems like the only option. The problem is your body won’t function properly without enough sleep. So, whatever work you happen to be doing, it’s likely to suffer right along with your bloodshot eyes. Not to mention your stress level. Waking up an hour or two earlier is a better option after a good 8 hours versus pulling an all-nighter.

Create your perfect study zone

– Designate an area in your home for studying. Make sure it’s an area you enjoy being in with good light and the things that help you focus. Soft music, comfortable seating, and no distractions. This will help cramming for a test feel a bit more like relaxing at home.

Make technology your friend

– Technology can bring harmony to your daily life by making things more organized and convenient. There are a ton of options for online classes, so check out what might work for you. Instead of racing from work to campus, you can come home and learn in your PJs.

Speaking of technology

– Smartphones are called smart for a reason. Most of them come with helpful calendars and scheduling tools. If not, there are apps that you can download that will help you stay organized by making sure you’re on top of both work and school-related tasks.

There’s no “I” in team

– You may be the one juggling school and work, but your family, co-workers and fellow students can actually make life a lot easier. Be sure to talk it out with everyone your schedule involves and get a good support structure in place. These are your people! They want you to succeed. So, lean on them and in the long run everybody wins.

Make time to make time

– For yourself. You know that expression, “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life”? It’s one to live by. Take time for you, whether that’s bowling with the fam or hiking up a mountain, as one famous sneaker maker said – just do it! After all, what ARE you doing all of this for if not to enjoy your life?
